We are committed to offering holistic emotional support, tailored to each family’s unique needs.

Our person-centred counsellors provide gentle, empathic care, using trauma-informed approaches and therapies such as Birth Trauma Resolution (BTR) Rewind Therapy, EMDR, Flash & Nervous System Healing.

These methods are designed to help parents process grief, heal from trauma, and find emotional resilience again — always in a compassionate, safe environment.

We also know that no single approach works for everyone, which is why we offer a range of therapies, ensuring support that truly fits each parent and family.

BTR Rewind Therapy

Rewind Therapy is a gentle, non-invasive technique that helps individuals safely process traumatic experiences — particularly those linked to birth trauma and the loss of a baby. Using guided visualisation, parents are supported to revisit distressing memories in a safe, controlled way, allowing the brain to reframe how those memories are stored.

The aim is not to erase the memory, but to reduce the overwhelming emotional distress tied to it, helping parents feel calmer, lighter, and more in control.

How This Therapy May Help

BTR Rewind Therapy can support parents and families to:

  • Reduce the intensity of flashbacks and intrusive memories so they no longer feel overwhelming.
  • Release stored trauma from the subconscious, easing feelings of being “stuck” in the experience.
  • Find peace of mind by calming the body’s automatic stress and trauma responses.
  • Rebuild a sense of safety and control after feeling powerless or overwhelmed.
  • Support emotional healing by creating space to grieve and process without reliving the trauma.
  • Strengthen resilience to face everyday life and future experiences with greater stability.

For many families, Rewind Therapy becomes a turning point — a chance to begin gently untangling trauma, restoring calm, and moving toward healing at a pace that feels safe.

EMDR

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a powerful therapy often used to help people who are still experiencing the effects of trauma after loss. Many parents tell us that, even long after their baby has died, they still feel as though the painful memories are “stuck,” returning with overwhelming intensity.

When we go through something traumatic, like the loss of a baby, our brain sometimes stores the memory in its “survival” part, as if it needs to keep us constantly alert in case it happens again. This can mean that flashbacks, nightmares, or triggers feel as though we are re-living the experience, rather than remembering it.

EMDR helps the brain to reprocess these memories in a safer, calmer way. During a session, you may be asked to gently recall aspects of the experience while at the same time following side-to-side movements with your eyes, listening to alternating sounds, or feeling gentle taps on your hands. This left-to-right rhythm helps “unstick” the brain’s processing system, so the memory can move into a place where it feels more like an ordinary memory — still significant, but no longer as raw or overwhelming.

Because EMDR can bring up strong emotions, we will always make sure you feel ready and supported before beginning. It is never rushed, and we go at a pace that feels safe for you. Many parents find that, over time, EMDR helps them to feel calmer, more in control, and less haunted by the painful intensity of their trauma.

Nervous System Healing & Polyvagal Work

At Leo’s, we are always exploring safe, effective ways to support families after loss. Nervous System Healing and Polyvagal Work is one of our innovative new interventions, designed to help both the mind and the body recover from the impact of trauma. Our Nervous System Practitioner is one of a handful in the world working in baby loss through this method.

When we go through something as devastating as the loss of a baby, it is not only our emotional world that is affected — our whole body responds too. Many parents find themselves living in a constant state of alertness, fear, or exhaustion. This is the nervous system’s way of trying to protect us, but it can leave us feeling stuck in survival states such as “fight or flight” or feeling numb and shut down.

This therapy draws on neuroscience (how the brain works) and Polyvagal Theory (how our nervous system responds to safety and danger) to gently guide your body and brain back toward a sense of safety. Using the principles of neuroplasticity and bioplasticity — the brain and body’s ability to change and heal — we work with you to begin resetting patterns that trauma has left behind.

Through trauma-sensitive sequencing, we use approaches such as the Polyvagal Felt Sense Model, titration (taking things step by step, at a pace that feels manageable, utilsiing co-regulation and dual awareness to help your body complete the stress cycle, and interoceptive neural techniques (helping you notice and safely reconnect with what your body is feeling). These approaches together support the integration of trauma that may have been stored both in your mind and within your body.

The aim of this work is not to erase your experiences, but to help your nervous system find balance again — so that you can move out of survival mode, begin to feel calmer and more grounded, and allow space for both emotional and physical healing.

How This Therapy Might Help

Our Nervous System Healing and Polyvagal Work can support you to:

  • Feel calmer and more grounded – moving out of constant “fight, flight or freeze” mode.
  • Reduce physical stress symptoms – such as tension, exhaustion, IBS, hormonal changes, or restlessness.
  • Improve sleep and rest – by helping your body find safety and ease.
  • Reconnect with your body – gently noticing and trusting what your body is telling you.
  • Build resilience – creating space to cope with triggers and daily stresses in a safer way.
  • Support emotional healing – allowing grief and trauma to be processed step by step, at your own pace.

Every parent’s journey is unique, and this therapy is always tailored to you — at a pace that feels safe and manageable.
