Today, our neonatal peer mentor, Katie, has officially started her University Certificate in Advanced Professional Development Peer Support in the Community at Teesside University.
In her first unit, “Beyond Labels: Community Led Perspectives on Mental Health,” Katie will explore various models of working with mental health.
Different models of mental health, including the medical and psychological models, provide various perspectives on understanding mental well-being.
For example, the medical model focuses on diagnosing and treating mental health conditions as medical issues, often with medication and clinical interventions. In contrast, the psychological model examines the role of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in mental health.
For Katie, understanding these models is crucial as a peer mentor for neonatal families. By grasping the diverse approaches to mental health, she can offer specialised support tailored to individual needs.
We’re proud to share Katie’s place on this course is funded by the Tees Valley Peer Support Network, highlighting their commitment to enhancing peer support in our community.
We can’t wait to see all the great things Katie will achieve through this course and the benefit this will have on the neonatal families we support🌟
